Our all purpose seasoning works like a charm to turn any meal from boring to delicious. We recommend rubbing it into meat, sprinkling over veggies, adding to sauces, and anything else you can think up. As always, we keep things healthy and chose beneficial spices like garlic, oregano, and celery seed. Garlic has been recommended by naturopaths for many conditions related to the heart and blood system. In addition, garlic is known for its possible anti-inflammatory effect and immune boosting properties. Oregano is a favorite in natural health communities for its antibacterial properties and has been used traditionally as a natural remedy for the common cold and flu. Oregano contains high amounts of Omega-3s, Iron, Manganese, and antioxidants. Celery Seed is one of our favorites. Celery seeds were historically dried for use as medicine. In fact, the ancient Greeks used celery to make wine, which was served as an award at athletic games. Traditionally, celery seed was used to treat joint pain, anxiety, tension, headache, malnutrition, loss of appetite, insomnia, exhaustion, urinary tract infections, and much more. Needless to say, our seasoning really is all purpose!
The name "basil" is derived from the old Greek word basilikon, which means "royal," reflecting that ancient culture's attitudes towards an herb that they held to be very noble and sacred. The tradition of reverence of basil has continued in other cultures. In India, basil was cherished as an icon of hospitality, while in Italy, it was a symbol of love.There are more than 60 varieties of basil, all of which differ somewhat in appearance and taste.The scientific name for basil is Ocimum basilicum.
Organic Celery Seed
Celery seeds contain phytochemicals, which are compounds that help protect your health. Specifically, the limonene, coumarin, phthalides and apigenin in celery seed are thought to help support a healthy inflammation response.
Entire books have been written about garlic, an herb affectionately called "the stinking rose" in light of its numerous therapeutic benefits. A member of the lily or Allium family, which also includes onions and leeks, garlic is rich in a variety of powerful sulfur-containing compounds including thiosulfinates (of which the best known compound is allicin), sulfoxides (among which the best known compound is alliin), and dithianes (in which the most researched compound is ajoene). While these compounds are responsible for garlic's characteristically pungent odor, they are also the source of many of its health-promoting effects.
Onions, like garlic, are members of the Allium family, and both are rich in sulfur-containing compounds that are responsible for their pungent odors and for many of their health-promoting effects. A wide variety of allyl sulfides are found in onion, including the four major diallyl sulfides: DMS (diallyl monosulfide), DDS (diallyl disulfide), DTS (diallyl trisulfide), and DTTS (diallyl tetrasulfide). Also present are a wide variety of sulfoxides, including (+) S-methyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide (MCSO), (+)-S-(1-propenyl)-L-cysteine sulfoxide (PRENCSO), S-methyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide, S-propyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide, and S-propenyl-l-cysteine sulfoxide. Onions are an outstanding source of polyphenols, including the flavonoid polyphenols. Within this flavonoid category, onions are a standout source of quercetin.
Oregano is known botanically as Origanum vulgare and is called wild marjoram in many parts of Europe since it is closely related to the herb that we know as sweet marjoram. Its name is derived from the Greek words oros (mountain) and ganos (joy) since not only was it a symbol of happiness, but it made the hillsides on which it grew look beautiful. Oregano also emerged from our food ranking system as a bountiful source of many nutrients. It qualified as a natural source of vitamin K, manganese,iron and calcium.
Organic Black Pepper
Pepper is commonly described as the "king of spices," and it shares a place on most dinner tables with salt. The word pepper originated from the Sanskrit word pippali, meaning berry. Black pepper is a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae, cultivated for its fruit, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. The fruit, known as a peppercorn when dried, is dark red when fully mature, and, like all drupes, contains a single seed.
A sprig of parsley can provide much more than a decoration on your plate. Parsley contains two types of unusual components that provide unique health benefits. The first type is volatile oil components—including myristicin, limonene, eugenol, and alpha-thujene. The second type is flavonoids—including apiin, apigenin, chrysoeriol, and luteolin.
